Artwork by Amy Sands, a junior at Brained High School, has been chosen by the school's art department to represent District 181 in an all-state art display at the state Capitol.

30 years ago (1978)

The Crow Wing County Board of Commissioners was told that it cannot legally participate in a joint effort to qualify the Brainerd area for up to $1 million in taconite tax relief.

40 years ago (1968)

The largest gun safety class ever will likely be taught in Brainerd this spring according to Police Chief Louis Rofidal. There are now 195 youngsters registered.

60 years ago (1948)

Equipped with snow shoes Brainerd Police Captain Bob Titus and patrolman Louis Rofidal move over Brainerd's snow-blocked streets on their round of duty.

80 years ago (1928)

Basketball tournaments gave free play to the enthusiasm of partisan crowds. So far no spectator has died of heart disease, but if we have any more close games like the Brainerd-Staples 11-10 mix up, we know some who may have to be treated or revived.

100 years ago (1908)

Misses Maude and May O'Brien were hostesses at a very pleasant sleigh riding party last night. A merry party of about 20 drove to the home of T.J. Sewell and had supper and spent a jolly evening.
