More than 200 attend shoreline development conference in Brainerd
Associated Press More than 200 people showed up for a conference in Brainerd to discuss the economic and environmental impacts of shoreline development.
Those attending the "Sharing Our Shores" conference Wednesday included resort owners, county officials, planned unit developers, multiple housing unit developers and home owners.
Otter Tail and Crow Wing are among counties that have banned shoreline development while officials rethink current ordinances.
Initiative Minnesota director Kathy Gaalswyk cited studies showing that Brainerd will see a population increase of 60 percent to 90 percent on the lakes in the next 30 years.
Resort owner Lynn Sharenbroich said everyone must work together to find better ways to write ordinances that will boost future tourism dollars.
