Central Lakes College named Rex Veeder vice president of academic and student affairs.
Veeder is currently assistant vice president for academic affairs at St. Cloud State University.
He will begin his new job at CLC in April.
During his tenure at St. Cloud State, Veeder provided leadership in a number of areas including faculty relations, diversity, distance learning, first-year experience for entering freshmen, strategic planning, curriculum development and innovation and international education.
He was the acting director of the American Indian Center at SCSU for three years. Earlier in his career, Veeder was in the classroom for a number of years including three years as an English instructor at Pima Community College, Tucson, Ariz., from 1989-1991. He holds a doctorate in rhetoric, composition and the teaching of English.

"Dr. Veeder's enthusiasm, varied experiences and personal qualities will be a great addition to the college," said Larry Lundblad, CLC president, in making the announcement to college staff on Tuesday.
The position has been vacant since the departure of Joe Opatz, who left to assume the presidency at Normandale Community in Bloomington.
Central Lakes, with campuses in Brainerd and Staples, is a community and technical college that serves about 4,000 students per year with career education and liberal arts transfer degrees in more than 60 programs.
