Cultural event planned Thursday at CLC
A cultural event to help move winter out in favor of spring is planned Thursday at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.

At noon, Michael Hasbrouck, St. Cloud State University, will give a free peek at Pachanga music at the Chalberg Theatre and then at 7:30 p.m. he will be joined by band members for a full event at the Chalberg Theatre.

The event is $2 or free to CLC students.

Music will highlight Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean.

Spring used book sale planned March 28

The Friends of the Library Spring Used Books Sale is 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 28 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 29 at the Brainerd Public Library.

The group reports an especially high volume of books for this year's event.

Future events include National Library Week on April 10 with a "Second Thursday" Light Hors d'oeuvres and Wine Tasting Fundraiser at Prairie Bay in Baxter. The event is sponsored by Prairie Bay and Baxter Cash Wise Liquors, followed by a 7 p.m. program with author Bill Holm at Franklin Arts Center auditorium.

A fully deductible minimum/suggested donation of $15 to the Brainerd Public Library Technology Fund will be accepted at Prairie Bay or Franklin auditorium. RSVP is requested to 824-6444 for the "Second Thursday" event at Prairie Bay.

Friends of the Library meetings are 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of the month at the library. Dates for the next three meetings are March 10, April 14 and May 12.

Downtown Brainerd Easter event planned March 22

Downtown Brainerd businesses, working through the Main Street program, will host an Easter event March 22 featuring pictures with the Easter Bunny from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Woody's Photography and live bunnies displayed by area 4-H participants. Bunnies will be available for sale.

This first year of the event is aimed at drawing families to the downtown Brainerd area. J & M Printing is the event sponsor.

Retired Army general to address Minnesota Council of Airports

Retired U.S. Army Gen. Barry McCaffrey, an MSNBC consultant, will be the featured speaker at the noon opening luncheon of the 25th annual Minnesota 2008 "Silver Anniversary" Airports Conference on April 23 in Bloomington.

The conference is hosted by the Minnesota Council of Airports and the Minnesota Department of Transportation Office of Aeronautics. It will start at 9 a.m. April 23 with guided tours of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The conference sessions will run from April 23-25 at the Ramada Mall of America Conference Center in Bloomington and are designed for airport owners, business owners, elected officials and aviation enthusiasts.
