Morrison County awarded federal funds for emergency programs
Morrison County was chosen to receive $23,952 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.
The selection was made by a national board chaired by the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from the American Red Cross; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A.; Salvation Army; United Jewish Communities and United Way of America. The local board was charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the country.
A local board made up of representatives from county government, Catholic Charities, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, ministerial association and the United Way will determine how the funds are to be distributed.
Under the terms of the grant local agencies must be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government; have an accounting system; practice nondiscrimination; have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs; and if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.
Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.
Morrison County has distributed emergency food and shelter funds previously with the Morrison County Food Shelf, the Motley Area Food Shelf and the Morrison County Chaplaincy Program. Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for emergency food and shelter program funds must contact Ted Pfohl, Morrison County United Way, (320) 632-5102, unitedway@clearwire.net, 107 S.E. Second St., Little Falls, MN 56345.
The deadline for applications to be received is March 15.
