Brainerd Dispatch carrier Clarence Smith has been chosen Mystery Shopper for March by the Brainerd Area Chamber of Commerce. "I've worked with the public 40 years," he said. "I like it here. Brainerd people are friendly."

A Brainerd old-timer - the 80 year-old Laurel Street Bridge is due for demolition soon. A plaque taken from the bridge was dated 1898.

World War I veterans were honored. Over 170 American Legion members were present at a dinner meeting held at the Carl Sidney Hanson Post 255 to honor 40 veterans from World War I.
60 years ago (1948)
The month of February was not only one of the coldest in recent years but during the month the heaviest snow fall was registered in the Brainerd area than has been the case in several years.
80 years ago (1928)
Barbara and Judith were spending a few days on the farm visiting their Aunt Minnie. One day they collected the eggs. Barbara noticed that one of the eggs was white while the others were brown. "Oh, Aunt Minnie," she said, "I must bring this egg back. It isn't done."
100 years ago (1908)
Despite the stormy weather Thursday evening, a large crowd attended the casino rink last night to witness the obstacle race by boys. Mike Giles won first prize while Billy Brown pulled down the second premium.
