House panel backs Blaine bill that would extend timber harvests LOCAL BRIEF
The Minnesota House Environment and Natural Resources Committee approved legislation Thursday to extend the permits of timber harvests in cases of emergencies. Rep. Greg Blaine, R-Little Falls, is author of the bill, which awaits final House approval.
Land operated by the DNR supplies 20 to 25 percent of the state's annual timber supply. About 70 percent or more of that harvest is seasonally restricted to avoid adverse environmental problems.
