Property owners and managers meeting planned
The proposed Rental Housing Maintenance Code draft will be discussed Monday.

The draft was presented to the Brainerd City Council at the Feb. 20 meeting by Jackie Cherryhomes, consultant from the firm of Cherryhomes-Tyler LLC.

Those interested have the opportunity to review the document by going to the city website at ww.ci.brainerd.mn.us or, going to city hall and requesting a hard copy. There may be a charge.

Questions and comments may be made at the regular rental property owners and managers meeting 7 p.m. Monday at city hall in the council chambers on the third floor.

The Brainerd Rental Property Owners and Managers group meets every month on the second Monday at 7 p.m. The meetings are usually held at the Brainerd Police Department located at 225 East River Road.

The consultants and city staff will be at the meeting to answer questions and address concerns.

The document is a draft and has not yet been voted on or approved by the Brainerd City Council.

North Dakota man arrested in Little Falls

LITTLE FALLS - A 40-year-old Hankinson, N.D., man was arrested after a 3:50 a.m. traffic stop Friday in Little Falls, the Morrison County Sheriff's Office reported.

The deputy making the traffic stop found a small amount of suspected methamphetamine in the man's vehicle along with some drug paraphernalia.

The man is being held at the Morrison County Jail pending formal charges.

Residents warned about mail scam

LONG PRAIRIE - The Todd County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about mail scams after one county resident received a letter that claimed the resident had won a Switzerland sweepstakes.

A check was included with the letter, requesting the resident send a certain amount of money back either by Moneygram or Western Union to cover taxes. The sheriff's office urges residents to be cautious about any mail received regarding sweepstakes or if a check was sent. Contact law enforcement about any questionable items or obvious scams.

New opportunities for older job seekers

People 55 and older who need to work to make ends meet and are interested in finding training and employment have new opportunities, thanks to changes in eligibility requirements for the nationwide Senior Community Service Employment Program.

The changes mean that additional older men and women with limited income might be eligible for the training and employment assistance offered by Experience Works.

Experience Works has openings in Cass and Crow Wing counties to assist unemployed individuals 55 and older with limited income to gain paid work experience, training and employment services. Services are provided at no charge.

Seniors who have previously met with Experience Works personnel and were ineligible at that time should find out if the changes might now make them eligible for services.

Minnesota townships will conduct annual meetings

All Minnesota township will conduct their annual meetings Tuesday and the majority of them will also conduct elections.

In Crow Wing County, elections will be conducted in all townships except Jenkins Township, which has moved its elections to the even-year general elections. Poll hours and annual meeting times vary so those interested may contact their township clerk for specific hours.
