Cass Lake man pleads guilty in murder case CASS COUNTY
WALKER - The alleged leader of the Third Avenue Killers gang became the fourth person to plead guilty to felony second-degree murder without intent to kill and felony crimes committed for the benefit of gangs in connection with the 2005 death of Michael James Littlewolf.
Michael Todd Fineday, 36, Cass Lake, entered his pleas March 7 in Cass County District Court before Judge David Harrington.
A Cass Lake police officer found Littlewolf unconscious on a Cass Lake street early the morning of Nov. 6, 2005. Littlewolf was taken to North Country Regional Hospital at Bemidji where he died Nov. 7, 2005 of closed head trauma.
According to the court complaints filed against four defendants in the case, it appeared tattoos had been forcibly removed from Littlewolf's body by cutting and/or burning.
Witnesses told officers Littlewolf had stumbled into a tent on Fineday's property Nov. 5, 2005, after reportedly recently leaving the Third Avenue Killers gang.
Witnesses indicated Fineday ordered Angelo Roberto Blackfeather, 20; Mitchell Adam Lohnes, 24; and Kendall Earl White Ogema, 18, all of Cass Lake, to assault Littlewolf and remove his tattoos, which they reportedly did with a razor and cigarette lighter, according to court complaints filed against them.
They then reportedly removed Littlewolf's shoes, dragged him to an empty lot, pulling off some of his clothing. Littlewolf reportedly regained consciousness later that night and walked as far as where the officer found him again unconscious about 6 a.m.
Ogema pleaded guilty April 25. Lohnes pleaded guilty Nov. 30. Blackfeather pleaded guilty Dec. 1. All entered pleas to felony second-degree murder without intent and felony crimes committed for the benefit of gangs.
Judge Harrington is scheduled to sentence all four defendants May 31.
