LOCAL BRIEFS Nolan in critical condition following ATV crash
The 56-year-old rural Brainerd woman injured in a four-wheeler crash Monday afternoon near Upper South Long Lake is in critical condition at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, a hospital spokesman said.
Sandra Nolan was driving the four-wheeler about 4 p.m. near her home on Leisure Lane south of Brainerd when the four-wheeler flipped over, throwing her onto the pavement where she struck her head.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department reported it was not known what caused Nolan's four-wheeler to flip.
Crow Wing County DFL: elections, candidates
BAXTER - The Crow Wing County DFL elected directors, committee members and delegates and heard from candidates at the March 1 annual convention at Forestview Middle School in Baxter.
New directors who were elected for 2008-2010 were Susan Barto, Gwen Besnett, Tom Besnett, Kathy Hegstrom, Chris Kelly, Eric Norquist, Joe Radinovich, Michael Soderlund and Liz Wheeler.
Elected to the State Central Committee were Eric Norquist and alternates Kris Hasskamp, Jesse Nix and Jean Whitson. Crow Wing County Chairperson Marcia Ferris and Associate Chairperson Rolf Westgard, also serve on the State Central Committee.
Ferris, Westgard and Treasurer Melissa Samuelson, Secretary Jesse Nix and Affirmative Action Officer Troy Bock are in the middle of a two-year term.
Thirteen delegates and 13 alternates to the Eighth Congressional District and to the state DFL convention in Rochester were elected.
Among those addressing the convention were Rep. Jim Oberstar, D-Minn., Rep. Al Doty, DFL-Royalton, Rep. John Ward, DFL-Brainerd, Meg Bye, a candidate for House District 4B, Frannie Franken, wife of U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken and polar explorer Anne Bancroft, who spoke on behalf of U.S. Senate candidate Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer.
Ward, Doty endorsed by DFLers at convention
LITTLE FALLS - Senate District 12's incumbent House members were unanimously endorsed Saturday at the district endorsing convention at Cabin Fever near Little Falls.
The convention backed Rep. John Ward, DFL-Brainerd, 12A; and Rep. Al Doty, DFL-Royalton, 12B. Both men are serving in their first terms.
An appreciation dinner for state Sen. Don Samuelson, a Brainerd DFLer, was conducted after the convention.
