Board backs CMEMS grant bid
Cass County Correspondent BACKUS - Cass County Board voted to support Central Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Region's 2007 grant application to continue providing services to 14 member counties, including Cass.
Scott Miller, Central Minnesota coordinator, told the board that 33 emergency medical agencies operate in Cass County, but only nine applied for and three participated in CMEMS regional programs - 2 percent of available funds. The county's agencies such as fire departments, first responders and ambulance services should be qualifying for up to 8 percent of the CMEMS funding each year, Miller said.
The region provides programs for volunteer retention and recruitment, medical direction, data collection, pediatrics and child safety, public safety education, emergency medical system management, interagency collaboration and offers a critical incidents stress management team to help local agencies deal with some of the more difficult calls to which they respond.
One revenue loss for the program, Miller said, is actually a plus for Minnesota residents. Fewer seat belt violation fines are being collected today than in the past because more motorists and their passengers are using seat belts.
