Switchboard, info desk on way out
BACKUS - Cass County Board voted Tuesday to eliminate the main switchboard and information desk office at the main courthouse annex entryway on the condition adequate directional information to offices is posted on signs at that location.
Anderson told the board the courthouse switchboard receives only about 25 percent of the number of phone calls made in the past.
The switchboard operator will move to the auditor-treasurer office where she can assist with a wider range of clerical duties, said Sharon Anderson, auditor-treasurer.
Minnesota Department of Revenue has informed Anderson the county will receive $71,426 this year as the county's 10 percent share of state taxes collected from Leech Lake Reservation. The county received $24,210.50 in 2006.
The board renewed its contract with Dr. Michael McGee, Ramsey County medical examiner, to perform autopsies when required on those who die in Cass County.
