LOCAL BRIEFS Pequot Lakes students dismissed early Thursday
PEQUOT LAKES - All Pequot Lakes students will be dismissed from school early Thursday so they can cheer on the boys' basketball team at the state tournament game against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at 5 p.m. Thursday at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.
Eagle View Elementary students will be dismissed from school at 12:30 p.m. Thursday while middle and high school students will be dismissed at 12:45 p.m. Regular bus routes will run beginning at 12:50 p.m.
Fan buses will leave Pequot Lakes for the state tournament game at 1:15 p.m.
Blood donation times set for Red Cross Month
BAXTER - To commemorate Red Cross Month, area residents may donate blood this week at Heritage Assembly of God Church, 13242 Berrywood Drive in Baxter.
Through Thursday, blood may be donated from 1-7 p.m. at the church. On March 23 blood may be donated from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the church.

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable source for patients. A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Donors must be at least 17 and weigh at least 110 pounds.
Hibbing, CLC team up for IBS workshop
Central Lakes College will host and Hibbing Community College will provide the instruction for a two-hour workshop on an ailment afflicting nearly one-fifth of the adult American population - irritable bowel syndrome.
About 30 million Americans have symptoms consistent with IBS. It generally affects women more often than men and tends to strike when people are in their 20s and 30s. Class participants will learn the symptoms, standard diagnostic criteria and the latest IBS treatments.
The fee is $30. The workshop meets 6:30-8:30 p.m. April 12 in C204 on the Brainerd campus.

Matthies speaks at club meeting
Evelyn Matthies recently spoke to the Nisswa Women's Club at Prairie Bay Restaurant during their regular monthly meeting.
Matthies is a former art instructor at Central Lakes College and president of the Crossing Arts Alliance, which is headquartered out of the Franklin Arts Center in Brainerd. She gave a talk entitled "The Power of Creativity."
