Clinics, screenings planned CROW WING HEALTH DEPARTMENT
The Crow Wing County Health Department has released its April schedule for clinics and screenings.
Immunization clinic - Public immunization clinics are given through Crow Wing County Health Department. There is a minimal charge for vaccine administration but no one will be denied if unable to pay. A parent or legal guardian with an immunization record must accompany each child under the age of 18. To schedule an appointment, call 824-1080 or Margie at 824-1098.
Clinics will be held from 8:15 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, and from 8:15 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 25 at Crow Wing County Health Department, 219 Laurel Street, Brainerd.
Cancer screenings - Breast and cervical cancer screening; a grant (SAGE/Komen) will pay for an annual exam, Pap smear and mammogram for women over 40 who meet generous income guidelines. If you have insurance that covers this procedure but you have a deductible, SAGE/Komen will pay the deductible. Call Crow Wing County Health Department for details at 824-1080 or 824-1086.
Tobacco-Free Community Coalition - The coalition holds monthly meetings at the Crow Wing County Health Department. If you are concerned about youth tobacco use or second-hand smoke issues, please consider joining the coalition. For more information call Stephanie at 824-1079.
Minnesota Arthritis Program - The 2006 Northern Lakes Area Arthritis Walk will be held Saturday, May 20, at the Paul Bunyan Trailhead parking lot behind Movies 10. Form a team with family and friends.
PACE (People with Arthritis Can Exercise) is an exercise program specifically for people with arthritis and taught by a certified instructor. Classes are ongoing throughout the community. The Arthritis Foundation Aquatic's program, which is water based, is ongoing at the Hallet Community Center in Crosby and the YMCA in Brainerd. Woman, Infant and Children (WIC) - Crow Wing County Health Department administers the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). The program provides nutrition education, referrals to medical providers and vouchers for specific foods for pregnant, post-partum and breast-feeding women, infants, and children up to age 5. Clinics are held the second and fourth Wednesday in Deerwood and several days in Brainerd.
The income threshold is set high with a family of four with an annual income of $54,192 eligible for the program. To inquire, or make an appointment, call the Brainerd WIC office at 824-1073 or toll-free at 1-877-724-1080.
Passenger Safety Program - Car seat clinics are offered on the first Tuesday and the fourth Thursday of the month. We also offer family education classes on the first Thursday of the month. Call Amy to make an appointment at 824-1097.
Crow Wing County Passenger Safety Coalition - The group of professionals and concerned citizens started meeting to respond to the needless traffic related deaths and injuries due to unrestrained vehicle occupants, misuse of safety seats, and drivers under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Passenger Safety Coalition meets every second Monday of the month at Wings Airport cafe. New members are welcome.
