Eurolarvae and small jigs are triggering sunfish at Nisswa Lake, Round Lake, and North Long Lake in 6 to 15 feet of water. The best crappie reports are coming from 14 to 34 feet of water during the evening hours on Round and Gull. Most small lakes now are producing panfish at different times of the day.
Crosby area
Crappies have bit best during the evening hours on small plastics or setlines and minnows. The bigger fish have been suspended throughout the water column. Some nice bluegills are being taken on horizontal jigs and Eurolarvae in 6 to 10 feet of water on many lakes. The key is to find the remaining green weeds adjacent to deep water.
Hackensack area
Sunfish action has picked up in 6 to 12 feet with lakes such as Pleasant, Sanburn, Lindsay, and Ox Yoke standing out. Look for crappies to be suspended over 12 to 35 feet on Lake Wabedo and Birch Lake. Woman Lake is starting to produce perch in 14 to 16 feet.
Lake Mille Lacs
The bays on the east end are starting to produce perch in 12 to 14 feet. Setlines and fathead minnows are turning bigger perch. A few limits of crappies have been caught in the bays over 9 to 13 feet. Reports from the west side have been limited this week.
Lake Winnibigoshish
Perch activity has steadily improved, with the morning hours being most productive. Work the main-lake humps and bars in 40 feet of water with jigging spoons and minnow heads. Ravens humps and Sugar humps have been best, with Sugar Bar and Zoomers Bar also producing fish in 25 to 40 feet. Start looking for these fish to move shallow soon.
Leech Lake area
Perch continue to be found in 8 to 12 feet. Look at First Point to Moores Point in Walker Bay, and Cedar Point and Goose Island to Sucker Bay and Pine Point on the main lake. Tullibees have started being caught in the deep water of Shingobee Bay and off Stoney Point. Shingobee also has produced sunfish and crappies in 25 to 30 feet during the evening hours.
McGregor area
Pleasant Point on Lake Minnewawa is providing steady crappie action during low-light periods. Crappies also have been found scattered between 16 and 22 feet on Big Sandy Lake, although Bellhorn Bay continues to be most productive. The deep hole on the north end of Big Sandy is a safe bet for tullibees.
St. Cloud/Eden Valley area
Sunfish action is picking up between 8 and 18 feet of water on Horseshoe Lake and Cedar Island Lake. Goodner Lake is producing sunfish in 8 to 12 feet. The deep holes throughout the Sauk River Chain continue to hold channel catfish. Look for crappies in 18 feet at Rice Lake and in 14 feet on Pearl Lake during the evening hours.
