Brainerd bowler, Darold Owens, narrowly missed a perfect game in the opening round of the Moose Lodge State Tournament last weekend. Owens rolled 11 consecutive strikes before leaving the 3, 6, and 10 pins standing on his final ball.

A school board committee gives tentative approval to a unique kind of political science class, a five-day trip to Washington, D.C. that would give 25 high school students here a chance to rub shoulders with President Jimmy Carter.

Lincoln third grade Blue Birds decorated a window last week in honor of the 57th birthday of Camp Fire Girls. Blue Birds was organized for 7 and 8-year-olds to prepare them for Camp Fire.
60 years ago (1947)
Estimating that approximately 2,000 visiting firemen from the state will be present for the state Fireman's Convention to be held in Brainerd June 9, 10 and 11.
80 years ago (1927)
P.A. Erickson, one of Brainerd's oldest and most well known florists has erected a new and modern greenhouse at his former location, 1103 Quince Street. The building is 30 by 104 feet and is of an all steel and glass construction. It is a big improvement for southeast Brainerd.
