Bennie Thrun of Brainerd, 78, hauls baked goods to several communities because he remembers having to go without food during the Depression. He said day-old bread would otherwise be wasted.

30 years ago (1978)

Kathy Borgwarth, Brainerd's three-year starter and high scorer, is one of 10 Minnesota high school girls' basketball players named all-state by the Minnesota Sportcasters Association.

40 years ago (1968)

Joe Gustafson's crowning achievement, the Brainerd Mall Shopping Center, will hold an official grand opening tomorrow to climax seven years of planning and effort.

60 years ago (1948)

The Brainerd Public Library has been serving the Brainerd community with reading matter since the corner stone of the building was laid in 1904. It contains 18,000 books. Head librarian is Helen Runberg.

80 years ago (1928)

The city council voted on the abolition of gasoline curb pumps in the city fire limits. The motion stated that they should be removed by May 1st.

100 years ago (1908)
