Central Lakes College Professional Sales students got a taste of the business world when they teamed with the American Cancer Society for Daffodil Days.
The challenge to the students was to prospect for area businesses, that had not participated in the Daffodil Days campaign. After the students were divided into sales teams and assigned geographical sales territories, their assignment was to do face-to-face "cold calls" on businesses, provide information about Daffodil Days and ask for their participation.
This learning experience resulted in more than 90 new businesses saying "yes" for the first time, instructor Pat Swarthout reported. "More than 15 of those businesses bought a variety of Daffodil Days products, which is a higher success percentage than average," he said.
In addition to adding businesses to the client list, the students raised $793 through selling daffodil products to students and staff on March 12. This was the largest amount raised in the four years students have been involved.
Students in Kathryn Bergman's Floral Design class also contributed this year by agreeing to arrange 68 Gift of Hope bouquets. These arrangements are anonymously purchased and delivered to cancer patients each year.
