PEQUOT LAKES - Pequot Lakes High School students rocked out Friday night in a multitude of ways to raise money and awareness of the victims of genocide in Darfur, Sudan.
More than 200 students played "Guitar Hero" on the many gaming systems and televisions scattered in the high school gym, danced the night away to local bands and rocked away in their rocking chairs at "Rock for Darfur," a second annual event sponsored by the Pequot Lakes Student Council.

Guest speakers included Peter Juma, who is from Sudan and now lives in St. Cloud. The event also featured video presentations, food, information booths and a movie.
Students had to have at least one person rocking in a rocking chair at all times throughout the rock-a-thon, which took place from 4 p.m. until midnight Friday. They brought food and decorations and many teams had themes for their 10-foot-by-10-foot area on the gym floor.
Live music was provided by Rubbish, Waiting Room Reunion and Funk-shab-ULoUS.

Kelsey Wulf, president of the senior class and student council, said she hopes the successful event will take place again next year - unless the genocide ends in Darfur.
