LOCAL BRIEFS
Cass County warns of deteriorating ice
WALKER - The Cass County Sheriff's Department is reminding people that with the arrival of warm spring temperatures ice conditions on area lakes will quickly deteriorate.

The recreational division of the sheriff's department will take ice signs and winter warning signs off area lakes soon.

The sheriff's department urges people to check ice conditions before heading out onto lakes by contacting bait shops, resorts, the DNR or the sheriff's department. The sheriff's department also asks that people tell someone if they are going out on a lake.

Training session planned at CLC on Saturday

Media and children training will be 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Central Lakes College in Room 236.

Training will be provided by Mary Gale. Participants will explore the media's impact on children's health, behavior and academic achievement.

This is to inform child-care providers, parents and teachers about the power and influence the mass media has on children.

Cost is $20 but if there is a financial hardship, contact Laura Billman for a fee reduction. A four-hour training certificate will be issued if needed.

Those interested can register up to Thursday night by calling Billman at 765-3074.
