Assessor sees property tax relief
Cass County Correspondent WALKER - Assessor Steve Kuha told the county board Tuesday 2007 state legislative proposals could mean property tax relief to a wide variety of property owners.
Disabled veterans, resort owners, agricultural property owners, homeowners, those who own a home attached to a business and seasonal recreational property owners could see lower property tax bills if all of the proposals pass, Kuha said.
One proposal calls for property taxes on cabins to drop 30 percent, he said.
Those most likely to see increases in the state changes to property tax formulas would be utility companies and pipeline property owners, Kuha said.
He also reported a five-year review of property sales in Cass County indicates about 1,500 properties sold annually until 2006, when there was a 12 percent drop to 1,300 properties sold.
The price paid is still going up, but at a slower rate, Kuha reported. From 2003 to 2005, the county saw annual property sales increase by 12 to 14 percent. In 2006, the property sale prices increased about 4.5 percent over 2005 prices.
Local board of review dates are listed on property valuation letters sent to each property owner and are available by calling the assessor's office at (218) 547-7298 and on the county Web site at www.co.cass.mn.us.
