Board contributes to council on aging
Cass County Correspondent WALKER - Cass County Board voted Tuesday to contribute $3,652 to the Central Minnesota Council on Aging program.
Commissioner Jim Dowson voted against, because it was not approved as a part of the 2007 budget.
Cass was the last county of nine counties to authorize that contribution. The program provides a variety of services to assist senior citizens, including community and home-delivered meals.
It also helps families find resources to help them keep older people at home longer.
A majority of the Cass County Board expects to attend a Minnesota Public Utilities Commission public hearing at 7 p.m. April 17 at the land department in Backus on a Great River Energy and Minnesota Power proposal to install a new power line from Pequot Lakes to Badoura to Birch Lake and Long Lake.
New substations are included in the project.
The board approved leasing space at Sylvan Town Hall for use by environmental services department staff.
The county will pay no rent, but will pay $100 per month toward clerical services the township will provide for ESD staff.
Chief Financial Officer Larry Wolfe reported a March financial review of 2006 Longville Ambulance Service operations before the service transferred from the city to a county-managed district showed sufficient funds remaining that $50,000 will be given back to townships who made 2006 contributions to keep the service operating until the license transferred to the county.
Remaining funds will be reserved to cover any outstanding debts still being incurred this year such as unemployment benefits to employees laid off when North Memorial Ambulance began operating the service Jan. 1, according to Administrator Robert Yochum.
