20 years ago (1987)
It is hoped that the chimes atop the Crow Wing County Courthouse will be in service again by Memorial Day. The carillon is being restored and only the existing console will be salvaged. The money raised to renovate the carillon was raised through contributions.
30 years ago (1977)
Robert Kingel, science instructor at Washington Junior High School, has been selected as one of 28 finalists for State Teacher of the Year honors.
40 years ago (1967)
Mrs. Earl Dickson was named winner of the 1967 Toastmaster's Club annual speech contest. Mrs. Dickson's subject was light and entitled, "The Flaming Light." Dr. Helen Longfellow won second place.
60 years ago (1947)
A rain which fell over the Brainerd area all day Saturday turned to sleet early Saturday night and Easter morning snow fall brought more than two inches of snow to this city. New Easter bonnets had to brave wintry weather.
80 years ago (1927)
This is the biggest "clean-up and paint up" season of them all.
It is remarkable what can be accomplished in a short time when the family gets busy around the yard. What a difference it makes. A neatly cropped lawn, painted flower boxes, trellises painted, fences mended., etc. These details are essential.
