Something for Holly
Freshmen raise voices, funds for ill classmate
Ninth-graders showcased hopeful, sad and just-plain-fun songs - plus a bit of Tae Kwon Do - at the Talent Show for Holly fundraiser Friday at Brainerd High School South Campus.

The fast-paced, two-hour show raised $1,931 at the gate for 15-year-old Holly Austin, a BHS freshman with an inoperable brain tumor who is being hospitalized in the Twin Cities.

"There are a lot of talented people in this school," said Holly's sister, Felicia, a junior at BHS, after the show. "Holly will enjoy it very much when she sees the tape."

Many of the performers chose songs that "inspired them to think of Holly," said freshman Zoey Houle, who organized the show along with classmates Kathryn Chandler and Sarah Dens.

The talent show will be aired at various times locally on channel 15.

Donations can be sent to BHS South Campus, 400 Quince St., Brainerd, MN, 56401. Write "Holly Austin" in the check's memo line.

Performers at the talent show were:

- Tom Freeman, emcee.

- Neil Venderpoel and Mason Woodman, guitar duet, national anthem.
