Medical marijuana bill sends mixed messages OTHER OPINION
A medical marijuana bill that passed through a state Senate committee Tuesday is far from being ready for passage.
The bill would allow doctors to recommend marijuana to patients suffering from everything from severe nausea to seizures and constant pain.
Many prescription drugs end up being used illegally, but how do we take an illegal drug and make it a prescription drug? For a government that has done nothing but tout the dangers of reefer, doesnt that send the wrong message?
Clearly, the best advice we can receive on whether medical marijuana is a safe treatment for people suffering ceaseless pain comes from doctors, and their input is obviously needed.
The other conflict arises from the fact that medical marijuana would, if allowed to be used, be the only smoked drug available - doesnt this also send the wrong message about smoking?
Medical marijuana has many benefits, especially for those suffering incurable and painful diseases. However, its hard to believe its the only effective drug available for them.
