  Central Lakes College student Angela Button of Brainerd was the 2003 Outstanding Piano Performance Award winner at CLC and won first place in the 2004 Minnesota Association of Christian Schools Piano Contest through her affiliation with another institution. She will perform Thursday in the Piano and Vocal Festival at CLC.

Pianists, vocalists in spotlight at CLC


Central Lakes College students will present the Piano and Voice Festival at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Chalberg Theatre on the Brainerd campus. Admission is free.

Among the students are several honorees recognized for outstanding performance.

Benjamin Miller of Sandstone recently earned a superior rating for vocal performance at the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Fine Arts Association Festival for two-year colleges. Miller also earned the 2003 Outstanding Vocal Performance Award at CLC.

Miller will sing "Non piu Andrai" from "The Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart.

  Central Lakes College student Benjamin Miller of Sandstone, shown at the recent Fine Arts Association Festival with the Massed Choir, was the 2003 CLC Outstanding Vocal Performance Award winner. He will sing a portion of Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro" in Thursday's concert.

Margaret Sweeney of Baxter received a superior rating for piano performance at the Minnesota Federation of Music Clubs contest, her third gold cup award.

Sweeney will perform "Jazz Suite No. 2 for Piano" by Austin and "Dr. Gradus ad Parnassum" by Debussy.

Angela Button of Brainerd was the 2003 Outstanding Piano Performance Award winner at CLC and recently captured top honors at the Minnesota Association of Christian Schools Piano Contest.

Button will perform Chopin's "Piano Nocturne No 19 in E Minor."

Aana Bendson of Baxter, Melissa Ruud of Aitkin and Sweeney share the 2004 CLC Outstanding Piano Performance Award.

Bendson will perform J.S. Bach's "Preludium No. 21" and Rachmaninoff's "Piano Prelude No. 2 in C# Minor." Ruud will perform "Piano Toccata" by Khatchaturian.

Others to be featured in two songs each are vocalists Teddi Donovan of Brainerd, Carrilyn Thesing of Fort Ripley, Shaunna Talcott of Shakopee, and Kyle Hanson of Little Falls.

Instructors are Jody Martinson for the vocalists and Michelle Sakry-Winkelman for the pianists.
