Brainerd woman arrested in stabbing
Staff Writer A 30-year-old Brainerd woman was arrested Monday after stabbing her boyfriend in the back with a kitchen knife.
Brainerd Police Deputy Chief Corky McQuiston said officers responded at 6:26 p.m. to a residence in the 1200 block of Laurel Street after receiving a report of a man that had been stabbed.
Officers found a 51-year-old Brainerd resident suffering from a knife puncture wound to his upper back. The victim told officers he had been stabbed by his girlfriend, Nicole Cossaboom, 30, Brainerd, and that she had fled on foot.
At the residence officers recovered the knife believed to have been used in the stabbing, police said.
McQuiston declined to release the name of the victim until the Crow Wing County attorney's office had time to review the file in the event officers need to do additional work on the case. County Attorney Don Ryan wasn't available Tuesday.
Shortly after arriving at the Laurel Street residence, officers received a call from Cossaboom, who said she wanted to turn herself in. She was arrested a short time later without incident. She is being held for assault in the Crow Wing County jail, pending formal charges from the county attorney's office.
McQuiston said the assault stemmed from a domestic dispute between Cossaboom and the victim.
The victim was treated at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd and released, police said.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department and the Baxter Police Department assisted in the investigation.
