funding needed
A Korean War veterans monument is needed at Camp Ripley. The cost of the project is $3,300. The Brainerd VFW Post No. 1647 has agreed to be the collection point for all donations from veterans groups and individuals.
Those interested in donating can do so to: Quartermaster, Brainerd VFW Post No. 1647, 309 S. Sixth Street, Brainerd, MN 56401. Checks should be made payable to the Brainerd VFW Post No. 1647. Donations are tax-deductible.
State jobless rate in March rises slightly
Minnesota's unemployment rate rose two-tenths of a percentage point to 4.7 percent in March on a seasonally adjusted basis.
In February, the seasonally adjusted jobless rate was 4.5 percent. Seasonal adjusted numbers take out regular fluctuations in unemployment. The state jobless rate without the seasonal adjustment is 5.4 percent.
At the seasonally adjusted number, the state reports 2,937,816 people are in the labor force and 137,898 are unemployed.
The Department of Employment and Economic Development reports the number of jobs rose 5,200 or 0.2 percent during the month in March on a seasonally adjusted basis. A year ago this month, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.5 percent.
Detour planned on Highway 27 in Little Falls
LITTLE FALLS - The Highway 27 railroad crossing in west Little Falls will be closed for repairs April 28 through April 30, weather permitting, the Minnesota Department of Transportation reported.
Highway 27 will be closed at the railroad crossing. Motorists will be detoured via Paul Larson Memorial Drive, Ninth Avenue Northwest and Lindbergh Drive/Morrison County Road 52. Crews from the BNSF Railway will repair the crossing.
Pillager schools host Arbor Day celebration
PILLAGER - The Pillager Schools will host a community celebration at the greenhouses located on the school property from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday, April 25. Events include tours of the greenhouses and a flower pre-sale featuring student-produced plants. Reserve hanging baskets, perennials and tomato plants on Arbor Day and receive a 10 percent discount.
Informational booths, tree give-aways, raffles, refreshments and games are planned.
