Clare Heaney, a high school and junior high school teacher for three years, has been chosen teacher of the year in the Pequot Lakes School District.

30 years ago (1978)

The Crow Wing County commissioners will be wrestling with the vexing problem of trying to find some way to cut expenses on the proposed law enforcement building. Bids for the new building here come in about $200,000 over estimate.

40 years ago (1968)

Brainerd telephone service will continue even though workers go on strike. Marv Hedberg, phone company manger, said that the switchboards would be manned by supervisory personnel.

60 years ago (1948)

The 30 members of the Ladies Drum Corps began limbering up outside in preparation for this year's marching contests. New uniforms costing about $2,100 have been ordered. They will be infantry blue and burnt orange.

80 years ago (1928)

Work was progressing today on the erection of the foundation for the basement of the new addition to the rear of the Model Meat Market, South 6th Street, being constructed to furnish necessary additional space for the shop.

100 years ago (1908)

The Easter exercises passed off nicely in Deerwood with a crowded house. A collection of $6.79 was taken up.
