Little Falls had one of the lowest crime rates in the state last year compared to other cities of its size, Little Falls Police Chief Mike Pender said Friday.
Pender said the city's annual crime rate slightly decreased last year compared to 2006. The crime rate was 9,111 in 2007 and 9,019 in 2006. Little Falls had a much higher crime rate of 11,398 in 2005.
"The crime rate in Little Falls is lower for different reasons," said Pender. "We've done a lot of work with drug enforcement and drugs are usually related to other crimes."
Pender said 149 adults and 42 juveniles were arrested last year and 739 crimes were reported, which excludes traffic arrests. Of the 739 crimes, 263 were serious crimes that include murder, rape, robbery, burglary, motor vehicle theft, assault and arson; and 476 were less serious crimes that include vandalism, driving under the influence and disorderly conduct.
The number of cases cleared - meaning a suspect was charged with the crime - last year was 69, compared to 75 in 2006.
The police department also reported that it had 4,689 incident complaints in 2007, compared to 4,670 in 2006. There were 232 accidents in 2007 compared to 244 in 2006.
