Land sale scheduled for July 9
By MONICA LUNDQUIST Cass County Correspondent WALKER -- Cass County will hold the annual county land sale July 9.
Lists of property to be sold will become available from the Land Department in Backus and on the county Web site, www.co.cass.mn.us, about June 6. Time and location for the sale will be announced about that time.
Land Commissioner Norm Moody reported to the county board Tuesday the county sold the last of the former state leased lots April 8 for $125,000.
The board approved selling the former Hackensack School property to the city of Hackensack for $51,000 appraised value. The school has been removed from the property.
Minnesota Trail Riders Association has donated $853 to Cass County Land Department to buy signs for horse riding trails in the county.
The board authorized Moody to hire a temporary part-time employee to monitor all-terrain vehicle use of county trails. That person also will monitor tree plantation sites to determine which seasons and time of day deer are eating the young seedling trees, so the land department can set an action plan to lower tree plantation losses in the future.
Moody obtained board approval to hire a temporary forest resource specialist while a permanent county employee is on a leave of absence.
