The Brainerd City Council will chip in with the downtown redevelopment efforts. The council Monday allocated $5,000 for planning the downtown project.

Russ Benton, former mayor of Nisswa, was both the honored guest and the subject of a roast at a meeting of the Nisswa Chamber of Commerce. Benton, who had served as Nisswa mayor for 13 years, has lived on Roy Lake in Nisswa since 1959.

On Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock Brainerd Lodge of Elks will hold their first meeting in the hall in the new Elks Temple. It will be a noteworthy occasion as a class of 63 candidate will be initiated that evening.
