Is your child ready for kindergarten?
Following are some basic skills that would be helpful for children to have when entering kindergarten, as compiled by kindergarten teachers in the Brainerd School District:
Self-care skills such as going to the bathroom without help, tying shoes, fastening/zipping their coats.
And ability to:
Say their first and last name.
Say their parents' or guardians' names.
Say their complete address, including city and state.
Say their phone number.
Say their birth date.
Recognize the four basic shapes: circle, triangle, square and rectangle.
Recognize eight basic colors.
Print correctly their first name.
Say or sing the alphabet.
Recognize some uppercase and lowercase alphabet letters in random order.
Count from zero to 10 in order.
Recognize numbers zero to 10 in random order.
Talk in complete sentences and to express ideas verbally.
Listen.
Follow a sequence of two-part directions.
