Crow Wing County has contracted with the Region Five Development Commission to assist in the completion of an all-hazards mitigation plan for the county.
Region Five recently completed hazard mitigation plans for Cass, Wadena, Morrison and Todd counties.
Public input and participation are an important part of the planning process, Region Five reports. In the coming weeks and months, Crow Wing County residents will have several opportunities to participate, beginning with a questionnaire which will be mailed to 1,970 random county households. All county residents have the opportunity to complete the same questionnaire online by visiting the county's Web site at www.co.crow-wing.mn.us/emergency_management or www.regionfive.org.
The plan's purpose is to protect the health, safety and economic interests of residents by reducing the effects of natural, technological and human-related hazards through planning, awareness and implementation. Plans serve as the foundation for activities. Implementation of plan recommendations may help to reduce injuries, loss of life and destruction of property. This may be accomplished by integrating hazard mitigation activities, programs, capabilities and actions into normal day-to-day government functions and management practices, Region Five reported.
The Crow Wing County Emergency Management Department was recently awarded a grant from the Minnesota Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to complete an all-hazards mitigation plan for the county.
