Brainerd Area Sertoma
to host annual regional convention
The Brainerd Noon Sertoma Club will host more than 350 visitors to the Brainerd lakes area at the regional convention at Madden's Thursday through Sunday.
Visitors and their guests will enjoy a convention of entertainment including keynote speaker Kathy Buckley, a nationally known comedian and a 20th anniversary performance by the Swingin' Sertomans.
Sertoma is an organization that has been providing SERvice TO MAnkind in the Brainerd lakes area for more than 30 years. The Brainerd Area Sertoma Club consists of more than 170 members. Sertoma's primary service project is assisting people with speech, hearing and language disorders.
Sertoma also sponsors community projects to promote freedom and democracy, to assist youth and to benefit a variety of other local community needs. Sertoma projects include the recent Winter Wonderland lights display, flag displays, support of Camp Sertoma and many others. Through these projects, as well as grants and scholarships, the Brainerd Area Sertoma Club returns funds to the Brainerd lakes area.

April snowfall boosts season total above average
While April's 25 inches of snow came too late for Brainerd snowmobilers and skiers, this winter's total snowfall was above average, topping the 50-inch mark.
DNR officials reported Wednesday that the late-season winter storms dumped 25 inches of snow compared to an average April amount of 3.2 inches. Seasonal snowfall totals were 51.3 inches compared to the 10-year average of 43.26 inches.
April's precipitation total was 3.36 inches compared to the average of 2.86 inches. The year-to-date precipitation totals were 4.87 inches compared to an average 5.46 inches.
Temperatures in April were all over the map with the high of 73 degrees recorded on April 23 and the low of 16 degrees recorded on Sunday.
