Six board members plus two superintendent finalists equals one big decision.
When the Brainerd School Board meets again at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, board members will discuss their two finalists for the next superintendent - Waconia Superintendent Jerry Kjergaard and Brainerd Assistant Superintendent Steve Razidlo.
Two board members said Wednesday it's possible that the board may not be able to reach a decision on Thursday.
Board members Kent Montgomery and Ruth Nelson have spent the week making phone calls to nearly a dozen contacts in the Waconia and Brainerd communities in order to find out more about the two men.
Montgomery said board members on Saturday discussed having two board members make a visit to Waconia but opted instead to use their time more efficiently. Both Nelson and Montgomery said they've spoken to a variety of people, including representatives of parent associations, staff and community members in both communities to gain another perspective on each of the two men.

Both Nelson and Montgomery said they would report back to the rest of the board about their findings at Thursday's special board meeting.
"I think the more data we can gather will be helpful," said Nelson. "I think we have two good candidates and we have an important decision to make."

Nelson said Wednesday she has yet to make a decision on which candidate she prefers. Montgomery said there's a possibility the board may not reach a decision on Thursday but he said he won't know that until the board meets to discuss it.
"We may not get there," Montgomery said of coming to a decision. "There may be enough division where we need to come back and have more discussion."
