Bike safety clinic set Saturday in Brainerd
A bike safety clinic is planned 10 a.m. Saturday at the Memorial Park parking lot in Brainerd.

The clinic will consist of hands-on instruction of the rules of the road and safety procedures. Those attending should bring bikes and wear a helmet. Helmets will be available for those who don't have them.

The clinic is free for all children.

Workshop for caregivers planned

BAXTER -- The Lutheran Social Service Caregiver Support and Respite program will host a workshop for caregivers 12:45-4:45 p.m. Wednesday at Excelsior Place in Baxter.

The workshop is open to all caregivers, both family and professional. There will be refreshments, door prizes and speakers on a variety of subjects, including legal, medical and self-care issues.

Registration fee is $6 and the deadline to register is Tuesday.

Koering backs hike for nursing home employees

ST. PAUL -- Sen. Paul Koering, R-Fort Ripley, voted in favor of a bill Wednesday that provides a wage increase for nursing home employees, holds hospitals harmless from reimbursement rate cuts and provides funding for programs for vulnerable adults.

The bill provides a 2 percent cost of living adjustment for employees of nursing facilities, immediate care facilities and other community-based services.

Upon passage the bill goes to a conference committee where negotiations will take place regarding the final language of the bill.

Gazelka cast vote in favor of K-12 bill

ST. PAUL -- Rep. Paul Gazelka, R-Brainerd, joined a majority in the Minnesota House Wednesday in passing a $12.5 billion K-12 education bill that increases state aid to Minnesota schools.

The plan contains a $734 million increase compared to current spending, featuring a 6.1 percent increase in the per-pupil funding. According to Gazelka's news release, the bill means increased aid for the Brainerd School District in the amount of $637 more per pupil and an increase of $663 per pupil for the Crosby-Ironton School District.

Rental meeting set for Monday in Brainerd

The Brainerd rental property owners and managers meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday at the Brainerd Police Department, 225 E. River Road.

The first guest speaker will be Police Chief John Bolduc, who at 7 p.m. will discuss the latest crime statistics in Brainerd.

Teresa Hettver, from the Brainerd Housing and Redevelopment Authority, from 8-9 p.m. will share information on tenant screening.

Student Juggling Club to meet Sunday

BAXTER -- Mike McColgan will instruct a Juggling Club 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the Forestview Middle School Community Education office in Baxter.

He will share techniques and ideas for juggling. Equipment will be available, including pins, rings, balls, scarves and a unicycle.

Beginners to advance jugglers are welcome. Cost is $3.
