Verndale's Bart sits down Bears
AREA SOFTBALL
BERTHA - Nicole Bart struck out eight and allowed two hits and no earned runs in Verndale's 5-2 Park Region Conference victory over Bertha-Hewitt Tuesday.

Heather Hejhal was 3-for-4 with two runs and Cathy Kempe and Elizabeth Johnson were each 2-3. Alicia Johnson hit a home run to improve Verndale's record to 7-1.

AITKIN - Lauren Eno was 3-4 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Aitkin Gobblers past Pine City 11-1 in six innings Tuesday.

Aitkin's Emily Mehr tossed a complete-game four hitter. She allowed one run and struck out five.

Allie Carlson was 2-4 with a double and three RBIs and Mehr finished 2-3 with an RBI.

STAPLES - The Staples-Motley Cardinals swept the Perham Yellowjackets 5-0 and 9-5 in Mid-State Conference softball Tuesday.

In the first game S-M's Lonna Dumpprope and Sara Dezell were 2-3 and Hannah Wagner added two doubles.

Dezell picked up the win as she gave up one hit, three walks and struck out 13. Dezell also won game two.

In the second game Miranda Milless was 2-3 and Wagner added a three-run double.

WADENA - The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines swept the Park Rapids Panthers 20-15, 17-7 Tuesday in Mid-State Conference action.

Stephanie Hahn was 3-4 with three runs and two RBIs and Kendra Grothmann was 3-5 with two runs in game one.

W-DC's Kristin Hoemberg was 2-2 with a home run and four RBIs, Megan Schmidt was 2-4 with a run and RBI, Steph Perkins was 2-4 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI and Cecelia Sakry was 2-3 with a double and RBI in game two.

SEBEKA - The Pillager Huskies split a Park Region Conference doubleheader with the Sebeka Trojans losing the first game 14-4 in five innings before winning game two 12-2.

In game one Lena Unger and Emily Doss each had a double and Kaylie Hanson had a triple for the Huskies.

Cheryl Wulff was 3-4 with two doubles and an RBI in game two. Lyndsy Spilman was 3-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Hanson was 3-4 with two runs. Doss hit a double and Unger hit a triple for Pillager.

Ally Hunstad improved to 3-1 as she picked up the win for Pillager.

LITTLE FALLS - The Little Falls Flyers split a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader with the Sartell Sabres winning the first 4-1 before losing 6-4 Tuesday.

The Flyers' Paige Beseman was 3-4 with two triples, a run scored and three RBIs and Marissa Gessell was 2-3. Trisha Wippler added a double in the first game

Gessell gave up one hit, one run, two walks and two strike outs for the win.

Bailey Veillette was 2-3 with two runs and an RBI, Ashly Erickson was 2-3 and Beseman was 2-4 with a double, run scored and RBI for Little Falls.

The Tigers lost game one 7-6 to split the doubleheader.

In game one Jamie Ackerman drove in three runs and Paige Sepin was 2-4 with an RBI.

Pitcher Erin Johnson struck out seven. Johnson won game two and was 2-3 with three RBIs at the plate.
