Cardinals, PR-B, Flyers sweep HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
PERHAM - The Staples-Motley Cardinals took both games of a doubleheader from Mid-State Conference opponent Perham on Tuesday, winning 3-1 and 6-2.
In the first game Jordan Riewer went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Trevor Ness was 2-3 with a double and a run scored.
Winning pitcher Devin Becker went 5 1/3 innings allowing two hits and striking out four.
In the second game Ness was 3-4 with a run and RBI and Riewer was 1-3 with two RBIs.
Alex Jannson notched the win for Staples-Motley.

Pine River-Backus 9-11, Lake of the Woods 5-11
PINE RIVER - The Pine River-Backus Tigers beat the Lake of the Woods Bears 9-5 in the opening game of a doubleheader before having the second game called due to darkness with the score tied at 11.
In the first game, Ryan Snavely got the win as he gave up one earned run and struck out ten. Andy Davidson hit a home run and had two RBIs, Troy Griffith was 1-for-2 with a double and RBI and Snavely was 2-3.
In the second game, Jordan Ackerman was 2-3 with three RBIs and Nathan Waslaski doubled for the Tigers.

Little Falls 5-8, Sartell 1-7
SARTELL - The Little Falls Flyers swept a doubleheader against Central Lakes Conference foe Sartell by 5-1 and 8-7 scores Tuesday.
Flyers pitcher Joe Rydeen notched the win in the first game, throwing a complete-game five-hitter with two strikeouts and zero earned runs. Riley Hirsch was 2-4 and Logan Kalis was 1-2 with an RBI.
In game two Beau Hanowski was 2-3 with two runs and Kalis and Ben Hanowski were 2-3. Andrew Lange started for the Flyers and got the win, striking out six in five innings and was 3-3 at bat to help his cause.

VERNDALE - Matt Moenkedick was 2-for-3 as the Verndale Pirates dropped a Park Region Conference baseball game 7-2 to the Bertha-Hewitt Bears on Tuesday.
Clayton Cottrell and Brady Siedschlaw each had RBIs for the Pirates. Ethan Kern was tagged with the loss.

AITKIN - Jase Hagman went 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Aitkin Gobblers as they were defeated 8-3 by Pine City in Great River Conference play Tuesday.
Scott Nyberg was 1-4 for Aitkin. Dan Landrus was tagged with the loss as he gave up 13 hits, six earned runs and one walk while striking out three.

Detroit Lakes 4-4, Pequot Lakes 0-8
PEQUOT LAKES - Pequot Lakes received two good pitching performances but had to settle for a split in its conference matchup with Detroit Lakes on Tuesday.
Ben Kepner took the loss 4-0 while pitching seven innings and getting three strikeouts. In game two Ryan Pahl went seven innings and had two strikeouts in an 8-4 victory for the Patriots.
