Gas tax hike brings more money to Cass
WALKER - Minnesota's higher gas tax approved this legislative session is expected to bring Cass County about $500,000 more each year by 2013 if motorists' gas usage remains about the same as this year.

Lori Koch, Cass County Highway Department fiscal supervisor, told the county board Tuesday this means the county's share of state aid highway maintenance costs paid from local property taxes will drop from over 30 percent this year to about 15 percent by 2013.

Total 2013 state aid road maintenance budget is projected to be $2,055,730 in 2013.

The board accepted a $112,000 Minnesota Department of Transportation grant for the Pine River depot renovation project.

This grant will match a $250,000 federal grant.
