Graffiti sprayed on Ripley tank
Staff Writer Vandals early Saturday spray painted graffiti on the Camp Ripley tank stationed at the entrance to the camp on Highway 371.
Lt. Col. Scott St. Sauver, Camp Ripley deputy post commander, said the graffiti was spray painted on the tank sometime late Saturday and was reported early Sunday. The graffiti was immediately removed after being reported, St. Sauver said.
St. Sauver said officials from Camp Ripley and the Morrison County Sheriff's Department are investigating the vandalism. He declined to say what was spray painted on the tank.
"It very well could have been kids playing a prank," St. Sauver said.
Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel said his department has no leads into who spray painted the tank, but deputies are continuing their investigation.
Wetzel said one of the spray painted messages appeared to be a statement about recruiters at schools and the rest were gibberish or incoherent. Like St. Sauver, Wetzel said it appeared to be the work of kids.
"It was very sloppy, disorganized, not really a concrete, strong political message or anything like that," Wetzel said. "It simply looked like an act of vandalism rather than someone trying to make a specific political point."
