Dutch and Irma Cragun have announced fulfillment of a long standing goal - acquisition of Island View Lodge Resort, which is located near their convention center on Gull Lake. Island View, built in 1926, was the first resort on that part of the lake.

Miss Wendy Schreiner has been named the new North Central Beekeepers' Association "Honey Queen." Miss Schreiner is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Schreiner of Brainerd.

The Brainerd School Board last night voted to provide bus transportation for rural students attending summer school and hired 64 teachers to handle the summer school program.
60 years ago (1948)
Wheels turned this morning in the locomotive department of the Northern Pacific Shops here after a shutdown since April 26 in which 375 employees were thrown out of their jobs. John Vanni said that most all of them were back on their jobs.
80 years ago (1928)
Another Brainerd Boy Scout has distinguished himself and his city. He is Eagle Scout Carl Zapffe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Zapffe Sr., 325 Bluff Avenue. He will leave for New York City for final tests to determine the two scouts who will accompany the Martin Johnson expedition to Africa this summer.
100 years ago (1908)
News received that the public buildings bill has passed and carried an appropriation for Brainerd of $45,000. A structure will be erected at the corner of Sixth and Maple Streets for a post office site that will be a credit to the city.
