Road projects totaling almost $5 million will be under way this summer in the Brainerd area.
30 years ago (1978)
Ellen Olson was named Girl Athlete of the Year at Franklin Junior High School, which held an athletic banquet for its girl athletes in eight sports.
40 years ago (1968)
Winners in the "What My Mother Means to Me" contest were Pamela Sellnow, 8th and 9th age group; David Morgan, 10th and 11th age group and Wendy Cox, 12th and 13th age group.
60 years ago (1948)
The Brainerd City Council passed a motion to make improvements at the baseball diamond at Bane Park.
Included in the program:
1. Bleachers
2. Two dugouts
3. Improvement of the backstop
4. Installation of two toilets
Total cost: $750.
80 years ago (1928)
Everything points to one of the busiest resort and tourist seasons in the entire history of the Brainerd lakes region. Tourists are flocking in before the month of June. An early start of the season is appreciated by all businssmen.
100 years ago (1908)
At a meeting of the board of directors of the Citizen State Bank this afternoon a proposition from the owners of the corner lot south of the Bane Block was accepted. The bank will now erect its new building on that site.
