Caution: BHS triathletes in action Saturday
Forty-nine Brainerd High School students are scheduled to participate in the BHS Fitness Triathlon on Saturday.

The one-mile swim begins at 7:30 a.m. in the BHS pool, followed by a 25-mile bike ride and 6-mile run.

Brainerd-Baxter residents are reminded to watch out for triathletes who will be running and biking on area roads.

The bike route will begin at Kiwanis Park in Brainerd and travel to Baxter by way of College Drive, County Road 48 and Forestview Road.

In Baxter, triathletes will be biking loops around County Road 48, Foley Road, Home Depot and Wal-Mart.

The run will be around the Forestview Middle School area in Baxter. The event will finish on the track at Forestview.

Honor roll efforts

The Brainerd Warriors had two honor roll efforts in Tuesday's track and field quadrangular at Forestview Middle School.

Jess Bye pole vaulted 8-0 (tied for ninth place in girls' school history) and the boys' 4x200 relay of Tom Thurstin, Joe Ohlin, Alex Rahn and Dan Lauer ran a time of 1:33.80.

BMX cleanup and practice scheduled

A track cleanup and preparation night is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Brainerd Lakes BMX track in the Crow Wing County Park in Barrows.

Final prep work to the track surface as well as general cleanup and touch up of the buildings and grounds will be done.

A new rider clinic will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. All first year riders and those interested in learning about BMX can ride the track and get individual instruction on general riding and race procedures.

The season's first points race is Sunday. A sign up is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. with racing to follow.

The BLBMX will race again May 25 and then shift to Tuesday night weekly racing on June 3. Free weekly practice begins May 22 and continues throughout the summer. Riders must be ABA members to take part in Thursday practice events.
