MOORHEAD - The Brainerd Warriors and Moorhead Spuds split a Section 8-3A baseball doubleheader Thursday.
Brainerd won the first game 8-7 as Nate Smolke went 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI. Bronson Shepherd was 2-4 with two RBIs and Cody Stange was 1-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Winning pitcher Trevor Thompson went five innings. He gave up seven runs, all earned, and nine hits, struck out five and walked two.
Bill Sather pitched the sixth and Nick Anderson pitched the seventh with one strikeout. Neither allowed a baserunner.
In the second game, Brainerd committed six errors in the second inning, leading to five Spuds runs and an 8-6 loss.
Anderson went 3-4 with an RBI, Robbie Veith was 2-3 and Shepherd had two RBIs.
Nick Rardin pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up eight runs on five hits, walked six and hit one. Anderson pitched the last one-third of an inning, giving up one hit.
