Pierz upsets Mora to advance
MORA - Danielle Nelson went 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs as the No. 7 seeded Pierz Pioneers upset No. 2 seed Mora in the first round of the Subsection 18, section 6-2A softball tournament Thursday.

Freshman pitcher Katelyn Fuhrman tossed a struck out nine for the complete-game victory.

Ashley Carst and Megan Welle both went 2-3 and Kayla Rhode had one hit and two runs for the Pioneers.

Verndale 3, Menahga 0

VERNDALE - Nicole Bart threw her sixth shutout of the season for the Verndale Pirates as they blanked the Menahga Braves 3-0 in Park Region Conference softball Thursday.

Bart gave up three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts.

Alexia Christensen was 2-for-3 and Alicia Johnson was 1-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Pirates.

Staples-Motley 7, Frazee 2

FRAZEE - Hannah Wagner was 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs in the Staples-Motley Cardinals 7-2 softball victory over the Frazee Hornets Thursday.

Abby Edin struck out five for the complete-game victory and Miranda Milless was 2-2 with two RBIs for the 11-5 Cardinals.

Wadena-Deer Creek 4, Breckenridge 2

BRECKENRIDGE - Steph Perkins pitched seven innings allowing three hits and two runs while striking out five to help the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines defeat Breckenridge 4-2 Thursday.

Perkins helped her own cause by going 2-4 at the plate with a double and a run scored.

Park Rapids 16-23, Pequot Lakes 3-3

PEQUOT LAKES - The Park Rapids Panthers swept the Pequot Lakes Patriots 16-3, 23-3 in Mid-State Conference softball Thursday.

Angela Pitan tripled in game one and Katie Peterson finished 2-2 in game one and doubled in game two.

PARKERS PRAIRIE - Lyndsey Spilman was 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Pillager Huskies as they were defeated by Parkers Prairie 15-1 in Park Region Conference softball Thursday.

Emily Doss, Lena Unger and Jasmine Massie each had a hit for the Huskies.

ALEXANDRIA - Nhi Dinh was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the Little Falls Flyers as they were upended by the Alexandria Cardinals 11-3 in Central Lakes Conference softball Thursday.

Marissa Gessell was 1-3 with two RBIs and Paige Beseman had the other RBI for the Flyers.

Gessell took the loss as she threw six innings, giving up seven hits and seven walks with six strikeouts. Of the 11 Cardinals runs, only two were earned as the Flyers made four errors.
