Business notes Sullivan joins Adventure Creative Group
Copywriter Mason Sullivan joined Adventure Creative Group, a full-service advertising agency in Brainerd.
Mason comes to the agency from Life Time Fitness, where worked on concept and content development for member acquisition and member retention efforts for the national health club chain. Prior to that, he wrote for an interactive advertising agency in San Diego.
Mason has serviced local, regional and national clients in a variety of industries, including health and wellness, endurance sports, real estate, produce, food services, finance and banking, technology, consumer packaged goods and more.
Meyer elected to International Society
LITTLE FALLS - The members of International Society for Technology in Education recently elected Dan Meyer of Atomic Learning, Little Falls, to the board of directors, filling the Corporate Rep board seat.
Meyer joins the 17-member national and international board governing ISTE.
As chief executive officer of Atomic Learning, Meyer has more than 20 years of education and technology expertise. Meyer was among the group of technology educators who launched Atomic Learning in 2000. Meyer has played a key leadership role in the company as it has grown to become a leader in bringing technology training and professional development to the education industry. Todorow joins Panache salon
BAXTER - Panache Salons and Day Spas, Baxter, welcomed esthetician Rossi Todorow to their Baxter team.
Todorow retired from her gymnastics coaching career to focus on esthetics in 2008. She provides skin care, make up, and waxing services at the Baxter and Madden's locations.
Smith appointed MMFCU board chair
BAXTER - Rhonda Smith was recently elected chairwoman of the board of Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union.
Each year following their annual meeting, credit union directors gather to elect an executive committee of the board of directors. In addition to Smith, the group elected Jeff Wig as first vice-chairman, Mark Korwin-Kuczynski as second vice-chairman, and Bruce Pederson as secretary.
Smith served as a director since 2002. She and her husband, Brian, own Downtown Art and Frame Company and the Bead Box in Brainerd. Smith has been a member of Mid-Minnesota for nearly 20 years.
Wig has been active on the MMFCU Board of Directors since 1999. He has been a business instructor for 17 years at Central Lakes College and has consulted with many area businesses through CLC's Small Business Development Center. He is currently dean of enrollment management at the college, a post he's had since January 2008.
Korwin-Kuczynski has been a part of the board since 1987. He is employed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation in traffic operations.
Peterson has been a Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union director since 1992 and a member of the credit union for more than 20 years. He is retired from his career as Staples/Motley High School principal.
Additional MMFCU directors include Eric Fischer, Bunny Johnston, Tom Haglin and Geoff Gorvin. Credit union directors are volunteers, and, therefore, uncompensated for their service on the board of directors. MMFCU's Board and Supervisory Committee are comprised of the credit union's own members. Mid-Minnesota Federal is a member-owned financial cooperative serving central Minnesota with offices in Alexandria, Brainerd, Baxter, Crosby, Little Falls and Staples.
Fields joins Nystrom and Associates
BAXTER - Charles Fields, a licensed psychologist, joined Nystrom & Associates, of Baxter as an outpatient therapist.
Fields has master's degree from the University of Illinois, Springfield. He has more than 35 years of experience providing therapy through the Minnesota Department of Human Services and the Illinois Department of Mental Health. He was previously a child development instructor at Central Lakes College.
Kuebelbeck joins First Supply
Bruce Kuebelbeck joined First Supply of Brainerd as a customer service consultant.
Kuebelbeck has more than 23 years of plumbing and HVAC wholesale experience in the Brainerd lakes area. At First Supply, his duties are inside sales plumbing and heating.
More than 244 women attend Walk About
Women were not deterred by the street construction equipment as they "Walked-About" Downtown Brainerd May 7.
More than 244 women, and a few men, participated in the event which finished at the Last Turn Saloon where nearly 60 prizes were awarded totaling more than $2,500.
This semi-annual event is organized by the Brainerd Main Street program and volunteers including event chair Becky Flansberg of the Office Shop, Rhonda Smith of Downtown Art & Frame, Cindy Kelley of Totally Kidz Shop, Paula Zelinske of Yesterday's Gone, Lorie Brown of Coco Moon, Mary Sieling of E.L. Menk Jewelers, and Jeannie Bridgeman of the Crossing Arts Alliance.

Horizon Health employees trek to state Capitol
With a caravan of three buses, more than 40 out of 230 Horizon Health employees from Pierz, Little Falls, Brainerd and Motley made the trek to the state Capitol rotunda April 28 in support of reducing projected cuts to long-term care.
Horizon Health is a nonprofit housing and health care provider headquartered in Pierz.
Harmony House receives message from Iraq
Harmony House of Motley residents received a thank you letter from Al-Asad Air Base in Iraq.
Motley Harmony House residents assembled packages to the men and women serving our country as a project in honor of "World Kindness Day" last November. Harmony House, a division of Horizon Health, is an assisted living facility dedicated to providing care and nurturing to the frail elderly and individuals experiencing memory loss.
SBA lender conference Wednesday at CLC
The Small Business Development Center at Central Lakes College, Brainerd, will host an online Small Business Administration lender conference from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday in Room C236.
The SBDC is providing the feed for a comprehensive update so that lenders learn more about how to use SBA loan guarantee programs to develop their business portfolios. A $15 fee (including refreshments and a box lunch) allows participants to join in viewing Bob Coleman's overview on SBA's 2009 lending programs.
Co-sponsors include the Brainerd Lakes Area Development Corporation, Minnesota Business Finance Corporation and the North Central Minnesota Small Business Development Center at Central Lakes College.

Energy efficiency workshop planned May 20
Business Energy Efficiency 101: How to improve your bottom line with energy saving programs is planned from 8-9 a.m. May 20 at the Northland Arboretum, 14250 Conservation Drive in Baxter.
The Brainerd Lakes Chamber Brainerd/Baxter Business Council invites businesses to discuss ways to improve your bottom line with energy saving programs. This seminar will also be available via webinar.
Learn how the Energy Smart program, which assists Minnesota businesses in saving energy through direct and personalized assistance, is helping businesses take full advantage of existing Minnesota energy utility money saving programs.
Local businesses Cash Wise Liquor and Country Inn and Suites will share how they accessed these programs and saved money. Finally, a brief overview of renewable energy options in Minnesota will be discussed.

Electrical technician course offered at CLC
The Business and Industry Center at Central Lakes College, Brainerd, will host a continuing education course May 28 for holders of the Minnesota Power Limited Technician License.
The course covers requirements for eight hours of instruction, and the $160 fee includes lunch. The class is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The course will cover applicable articles and sections of the 2008 National Electrical Code, Minnesota Statutes and Rules governing electrical work, and a review of the basic elements of electricity and electrical calculations.
This course has been approved by the Minnesota State Board of Electricity. Instruction is provided by Riverland Community College. The classroom can be accessed via Entrance No. 6 of the Business and Industry Center. Deadline to register with payment is May 21.

Workshop looks at Selling in a Tough Economy
The next installment in the Brainerd Lakes Chamber's Focus on Your Business Future series of workshops to help people mange their business during these challenging economic times is Selling in a Tough Economy.
The workshop is 7:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday at Central Lakes College C200 or online via a webinar.
This is the time to analyze the selling process and develop skills. This workshop will address fear, time management, successful sales, and better sales meetings. Presenter is Rick Cole, Area Manager for Dale Carnegie Training.
Focus on Your Business Future is a series of six bottom line workshops in May. Cost is $55 for all workshops for chamber members. Blogs are available for all topics for idea exchanges.
Free forum on specialized wound care planned
STAPLES - A unique service of Lakewood Health System, the Wound and Ostomy Department is presenting a free forum called "Wound and Ostomy: Specialized Care for Patients" at 4 p.m. May 21 at the main campus classrooms.
Wound and Ostomy care improves patient outcomes and quality of life by providing specialized care for patients with traumatic wounds, pressure ulcers and chronic "non-healing" wounds, such as diabetic or stasis wounds.
In addition to Melissa Erickson, registered nurse, certified wound, ostomy and continence nurse, Ana Marie Miller, RN, certified wound and ostomy nurse is rejoining Lakewood Health System after a three-year military deployment. Miller will be the primary contact for wound and ostomy patient care at the Care Center, Memory Care and Behavioral Health Unit.
LAHRA receives distinguished award
Lakes Area Human Resources Association receives distinguished award.
The Society for Human Resource Management in Alexandria, Va. awarded the Superior Merit Chapter designation to the Lakes Area Human Resources Association for its scope of work in perpetuating and supporting the mission of the organization in 2008.
LAHRA is one of 79 chapters receiving the distinction in SHRM's North Central Region comprised of 10 states and 153 affiliated chapters.
LAHRA receives a Certificate of Recognition, a specialized banner to display at its meetings and events and is being recognized in SHRM's publications and at its conferences.
