Local briefs Burning ban lifted in several area counties
Burning restrictions ended Monday in 20 Minnesota counties, the DNR announced.
Spring green-up and recent rains have eased dry conditions in the following area counties: Aitkin, Crow Wing, Cass (south of the Chippewa National Forest boundary), Mille Lacs, Todd, Morrison and Wadena.
The northern portion of Cass County remains under a burning restriction.
Homeowners are reminded to get an open burning permit, observe all burning laws, burn small piles of debris that can be controlled and to tend fires until completely out.
Ruud pleased firearm legislation passes Senate
ST. PAUL -- Sen. Carrie Ruud, co-author of the Personal Protection Act, said she was pleased the measure recently passed the Senate 44-21.
The Breezy Point Republican said the legislation makes the firearm permitting process more uniform and ensures that only people who are old enough, trained in firearm use and free of criminal backgrounds can receive a permit to carry a handgun.
Meeting set for Cass, Crow Wing counties
Commissioners from Cass and Crow Wing counties will meet 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Quarterdeck Resort and Restaurant in Nisswa.
