Vehicle seized May 9 not stolen
Police computers incorrectly showed a vehicle as stolen when Baxter police officers conducted a felony traffic stop May 9 and seized the vehicle, Baxter Police Chief Jim Exsted said.
Officers from several law enforcement departments stopped the vehicle about 11 a.m. at the McDonald's parking lot in west Brainerd. A 39-year-old Motley woman was questioned at the scene but not arrested.
Exsted said the vehicle had at one time been stolen in Minneapolis, but was later recovered and legally sold at an auction. He said the lack of a computer data entry updating the sale probably led to the vehicle being listed as stolen.
