Girl Scouts and members of their families totaling more than 2,000 in number, are scheduled to celebrate Girl Scouting's 75th Anniversary on June 6 at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds.
30 years ago (1977)
Vern Mackey, 90, holds the distinction of being the oldest living continuous subscriber to the Brainerd Daily Dispatch. His subscription began in February of 1917 and has run without interruption ever since.
40 years ago (1967)
One major building project will be completed in Brained this year and another will begin. Scheduled for completion is the new shopping center in northeast Brainerd and scheduled for construction beginning this year, is the new high school.
60 years ago (1947)
Jim Tinkelpaugh kept the skimming black dish well in the sights of his gun over the weekend to break 72 out of 75 clay pigeons and edge out Dr. George Cardles 70 out of 75 at the trap shoot held at Uncle Tom's Trap Club blitzing grounds.
80 years ago (1927)
The choral society of the Brainerd Musical Club was the proud recipient of special recognition as a result of winning the choral contest at the meeting of the Sixth District of the Minnesota Federation of Women's Clubs. They will compete for state honors at Crookston in October.
100 years ago (1907)
The last wooden sidewalk on Front Street is about to become a reminiscence. The walk in front of Johnson's Bakery is to be replaced with cement.
